It's been a while since I've posted. Anyone still reading LJ stuff?

Echo!!!!

jk. Anyhoo, fall is coming on with a vengeance. The mega cats are losing some weight. I am not.

I just got my first sofa as a hand-me-down from my grandmother. So comfy! And the cats sleep no where else anymore.

Today

Waking up and having clean laundry was very nice. Having a warm furry cat sleeping next to me = super nice. Finding a person who can listen to me talk about depression = priceless.

Catch 22 & the single person

No awards were won with the writing in this article. I keep reading because I was curious about the topic. Then I noticed how small the study group was and that divorces weren't considered in final analysis. Which made me even more ticked off when I got to page three of the article, and read, "Results from the study confirmed that depressed people report less marital happiness and more marital conflict but being married enhanced their mood." So my marriage will suck, but I'll be happy. Reuters article

YouTube makes headlines twice today

First:

"I am a British subject, not an American citizen, and in my country we have a freedom of speech. I have a right to report that." A British reporter has come under pressure from Scientologists, over a video from YouTube. Row over Scientology video.

Amidst the new of the Viginia Tech shootings, LJ becomes news
[info]forgotten_fad
An Asian gun-aficionado is condemned by a group of net peers. This young fellow posts to LJ, enjoys guns, and suffers depression. I wonder what an LJ interest-search would pull in terms of numbers for that combo?

Falsely accused of the shooting, this guy became the brunt of reactive fear and racism surround the shooting. Quote from article below, "[LJ] Comment fields on Chiang's site soon filled with racist lines like 'so u are the asisan that shot up the school. i hate u and your people.'" Tools that make work easier
[info]forgotten_fad
I've become a BasecampHQ addict! BasecampHQ is an excellent example of the so-call 2.0 web apps. Even cooler, there is a free version of each software app.

What does that mean to someone who could give a rat's ass about tech stuff?

- it's really easy to use

- it's available through any internet connection

- and it makes doing work easier

I'm a hater
[info]forgotten_fad
Though I hate to admit it, I got my current job while using the internet connection at Mother Fools. Much like the Willy St. Coop, there is something that I detest about the clients and workers alike: the ongoing judgment, "Are you a scenester?" Much like going to any music show, there are posers who are hipper than thou with their cool clothes and knowledge of indie bands like Frisbee Distortion. Well they can all go to hell, because I'm cooler than all of them. Yeah.

What brings up Mother Fool's? Like a lame-o, I'm back because it's the closest internet connection within walking distance and I'm avoiding packing for my upcoming move. I can only play Fable on Xbox for so long before my mind starts to liquefy. See? If I were really hip I'd have said "on my Wii" or "on my "PS3".

Shout out to Zach Galifianakis whose recent performance in Madison killed! I realize the irony in name dropping someone who isn't a celebrity, but get over it; just wait to seconds and he'll be more famous than he ever wanted to be.

Geek Discover Other Geeks Cooler
[info]forgotten_fad
Forgotten_Fad recently begin a job at a mail-order catalog company that was in desperate need of a webmaster. The first week was a bit rough, as he discovered that the commute to the the ass-end of town requires two buses with very limited runs. When he saw the ad for "ECOMMERCE DESIGNER," and that the company sold speakers, he assumed he would rule the office with his tech guy coolness. It became obvious that speaker geeks were slightly cooler than tech geeks.

His friends speculated that much of the speaker geek coolness was directly attributable to the improved clothes and haircuts. One of his best friends said, "Whatever, geeks are only cool to themselves.

The process of acculturation within the company, however, was eased by daily take-out lunches paid for by the company. Though pleased that he had a new job, Forgotten_Fad deeply felt his downgraded coolness, fell into a deep depression, and purchased the "I Wish I Were Dead" Onion mug.
